10/10/2009 Hamdsome 3's 3 v 3 Winchmore 3's

Another week of devastation: After a crushing final blow against Nottsborough the week before, the last thing the handsome three’s needed was to drop points; they did! There were some strong performances across the pitch, with Chris Thompson using excellent strength to battle in the middle of the park. Chris, although not the tallest of players, dominated the midfield: reminding us of Tolkien’s novel The Lord of Rings, when Gandalf speaks about the Hobbits, ‘These little creatures never seize to amaze me,’ depicts perfectly Chris’ current performances for the thirds, along with his two goals in two games.

Another excellent performance was from the new boy Adam Thomas, class and elegance on the pitch allowed the rest of the team to blossom from his craftsmanship. The handsome three’s went down to an early goal from the ‘Supa Hill’. The ‘Supa Hill’ are renowned for their poor slow starts to their game; as noted by Captain Carlo’s pre-match team talk. However, this was not case. The ‘Supa Hill’ started thunderous with a goal within six minutes. Nevertheless, new boy Adam steadied the mighty force of the handsome three’s with an excellent long distance equalizer.

There was an air of tension which pierced through the pitch. The handsome three’s needed a man to stand up and be counted, that man was Lee Boswell. Using his strength and lamppost like legs, he danced the defence and Bosy picked up a fine goal. This joy did not last for long, as just before half time the enemy picked up another blowing equalizer.

The fine tune of Carlo’s words flew through the team’s ears during the half time interval; the men’s hearts began to beat like drums in a carnival. Carlo was a bear in his anguish; he refused to let the vision of victory go. The men rose and went back out to battle with the Supa’s. Almost instantly a penalty decision was given: The ball may have crossed the line for a goal kick, however, the referee called for play to continue and the Supa’s very foolishly picked up the ball in their own box. Bosy rose to the challenge, in his true gentle nature he rolled the ball to the goalkeeper instead of sending the ball into the bottom corner of the net, what an honest man.

Play continued, men thought valiantly across the pitch. Then from nowhere, Chris using all of his strength smashed a beautiful goal home. ‘Yes!’ shouted Chris with glee, ‘I have scored’, all of the handsome three’s embraced each other. Equally, as beautiful as this moment was, the show must go on. The men challenged for everything in their quest for victory, except for a header in the very last minute, this was not wise. The Supa’s punished the handsome three’s with their headed goal at the very death from Collins again, and Carlo’s beautiful vision diminished. Was this down to luck, no, I would say it was down to our mistakes. The outcome being, next week the handsome three’s must keep fighting to the very last minute.
